Decorative Stainless Steel Wall Panels: Build a Better Finish Approval

Use physical references and a clear sample sequence to compare brushed, mirror, textured and coloured wall panels.

Decorative stainless steel wall panels are often selected from images, yet the installed appearance depends on lighting, viewing angle and the relationship between adjacent pieces. A better approval process moves from a design reference to a sample that can be reviewed in the intended setting. The goal is a shared visual standard before repeated production begins.

Separate colour, texture and reflectivity

Create a finish schedule with individual entries for colour, surface texture and the intended degree of reflection. A warm metallic colour can be combined with different underlying textures. worldstainless describes both mechanically finished surfaces and specialist decorative treatments. [1] Avoid using one catalogue name to stand for every aspect of the appearance.

Shortlist with small samples, approve with context

Use coupons to eliminate unsuitable directions, then review the preferred option alongside adjacent stone, paint or timber finishes. Position the samples in the intended orientation. When a large feature wall is involved, ask the design team whether a larger mock-up is needed to judge panel joints and reflected lighting. Record what the approved sample is intended to demonstrate.

Define coloured finishes explicitly

If a specific coating or colouring process is required, name it in the specification and ask the supplier to confirm the proposed route. PVD and electrochemical colouring are distinct options described by ASSDA. [2] Do not assume that every gold or black stainless steel sample uses the same process, and do not infer the base grade from the colour.

Make the review repeatable

Record the physical sample reference, date and approving party. List the viewing conditions the project team agrees to use, including orientation and representative lighting. Keep the approved sample accessible during production review. When several adjoining surfaces must match, ask how the supplier will group and identify those pieces so they can be evaluated together.

Address variations before they become disputes

Ask the supplier to identify potential variation between material batches and formed pieces. Agree how proposed substitutions will be submitted. If a sample includes a folded edge, state whether that edge is part of the approval. Distinguish acceptable material character from damage or workmanship concerns in a written review record rather than relying only on informal messages.

Connect appearance to the order documents

Reference the approved finish on drawings, the purchase order and the inspection checklist. Include grain direction and visible-face markings. Ask for the packing method to protect the agreed surface through shipment and site handling. This links the design decision to practical delivery requirements and gives every party the same reference when the panels arrive.

Before you request a quotation
